Part 25: Wanted: One Spacesuit - Size: Medium.
Head of Security Margo Thumpa was used to dealing with unusual situations, that was all part of the job in her line of work. She’d been there, done that and washed the T-shirt to get rid of the bloodstains many times. But even so, she had never met a talking mouse before. Especially not a talking mouse smoking a pipe and wearing what looked for all the world like royal robes. She started to wonder if today had been a bad day to give up vaping.
She leaned in to look at the mouse closely. “Did you just say you were measuring DJ Dick up for a space suit?”
The mouse nodded. Margo couldn’t help but get the impression it was a regal nod. Without quite knowing why, she found herself dropping into an awkward curtsy and adding the words. “Your Majesty.”
At this point, Samantha straightened up. She put down the ruler, looked over the figures she had written down and nodded to herself. “Medium, that’s what we need.”
“Do you mean, a space suit, size medium?” asked Margo tentatively.
Samantha nodded again. “That is exactly what I mean. Only question is, where on earth are we going to find one as such short notice?”
Margo cleared her throat. “Well, as it happens…”
The mouse monarch leant forward, took the pipe out of his mouth and smiled a kindly smile. “Yes, Margo, my dear. Do go on…”
“I’ve got one in my storage cupboard,” added Margo. “I always keep one handy, just in case.”
Samantha looked at her in amazement. “Just in case of what?”
“Emergencies,” said Margo. “You’d be surprised how often they crop up in my line of work.”
In the silence that followed this remark, the only sound to be heard was the sound of tiny paws clapping happily. “Margo,” said the mouse when he had finished applauding. “You’re a star. A gem. I'm going to give you a medal for this. A really nice one. With sparkly jewels on it and everything.”
Margo dropped into another awkward curtsy. “Why, thank you, your royal mouse-ness. That would be most kind of you.”
At that moment, the door to the studio was thrown wide open and Griff burst in waving a stack of papers. “Guys,” he shouted. “You’ll never believe what’s just happened…”
